The Faculty of Architecture at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts was established in 1922. One of the founders of the school and the first rector of the University GiorgiChubinashvili highlighted the importance of the faculty in his inaugural speech.
From the beginning, the Faculty of Architecture was represented by renowned architects and scholars, including A. Kalgin, H.Hryniewski, N. Severov, G. Machavariani, G. Kurdiani, G. Mukhadze, and V. Beridze.

The 86-year history of the Faculty of Architecture and the creative output of the generations of people who represented the Faculty demonstrate the huge potential of the school. After the fall of the ‘Iron Curtain’, graduates and students have enjoyed remarkable achievements at the international scale.

Currently, the school is part of the unified educational system of the country. As required by the international standards of UNESCO-UIA and the Bologna Process, the Faculty of Architecture has\introduced a three-cycle education system, i.e. undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies. Programmes have been developed for civil architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, urban architecture, the design of colour and light in architecture, interior design and environmental design in line with the general standards set by the national curricula.
